We all love wearing magnificent, sparkling jewelry, but like any valuable object, they must be maintained so that their beauty lasts over time. To keep them shining like the first day, clean them with the right technique and at the right frequency! We give you all the tips for properly cleaning your gold jewelry, as well as your stones.
Cleaning gold or platinum jewelry: daily tips
Gold and platinum jewelry and precious stones are eternal, but to keep them that way, it is important to know how to care for them. Whether made of white gold, rose gold, yellow gold, or platinum, most jewelry will eventually get dirty over time and with daily use.
Tip #1: Opt for quality gold
If you choose rose gold, we recommend our alloy since we add very little copper to it, as this metal oxidizes quickly over time. Unlike the rose gold used in some jewelry, our alloy is therefore specifically designed for optimal durability and will require very little maintenance.
If you choose platinum, which was the most used metal in the 1930s for its ability to stay grey and not yellow over time, you will then be able to observe scratches that will appear with daily use. Since the discovery of palladium white gold alloy, platinum has become obsolete since palladium white gold is harder and does not yellow over time. The latter therefore possesses all the necessary qualities to last over time.
Tip No. 2: It is not just gold and platinum that need to be maintained...
Diamonds, precious stones, and other gemstones also require special care, as they can lose their luster due to cream and soap residue, pollution, and dust found in our everyday environment.
Regular care of your gemstones will ensure that your jewelry stays with you throughout your life while retaining the same brilliance it had on the very first day.
Tip #3: Avoid harsh products
Some grandmotherly recipes involve cleaning jewelry with toothpaste. We do not recommend doing this because the toothpaste will get stuck in the crevices of the diamonds and you will have a hard time removing it. Furthermore, it can be very abrasive, so we strongly advise against it. Others will also suggest letting your jewelry soak overnight in laundry detergent or other cleaning products. This will end up further clogging your jewelry and is therefore completely pointless. The best way to clean them is to use our “homemade” product which you can spray directly onto our special bamboo brush, then brush the outside and inside of the jewelry, rinse them with clean water, and dry them with the cloth provided for this purpose.
